Kissing Shakespeare

Text Box: Kissing Shakespeare

In this book it talks about how Miranda Graham believes that she is a descendant of William Shakespeare.” The role was one of mother’s triumphs, and you must carry on the tradition” (1). She hopes that she can become a Shakespearean actress like her parents. The other main character, Stephen Langford, and asks Miranda does she want to meet William Shakespeare.” How would you like to meet William Shakespeare” (6).  Miranda thought Stephan was pulling her leg, or even if it was a dream. And this is where the magic begins. Then he turned his back to me, muttered to himself, and then spun around said. “What if I promise to get you home safely when this is done? Swear to you?” (22). Stephan uses a spell and transports him and Miranda to the 16th century of England, where Stephan is originally from. She meets the teenage Shakespeare, and Miranda falls in love with him. Amazingly, Shakespeare says that Miranda is the right person for his play. But, Miranda can’t believe that she is the right person for the role in his play.  Miranda decides to stay in the 16th century with the teenage Shakespeare, and he later tells her poetry. Later, she finds that she likes Stephan and William. My thoughts on this book, is that it was pretty interesting. Miranda was the most interesting character to me, because how do you fall in love with, some one that you think you are related to. All the books read, nothing like that has happened before, and it caught me by surprise. I would love to read a book like this one again, but a little more suspenseful.

Pamela Mingle, was a former teacher and librarian, lives in Lakewood. Colorado. She and her husband enjoy traveling Great Britain, where they love taking long walks. While taking one of those walks, Pamela discovered the Hoghton Tower, the perfect setting for Kissing Shakespeare.

I believe Kissing Shakespeare, gave me a better understanding of what the 16th century was like. Also, how influential William Shakespeare was to poetry today. The author expressed in the story of how Shakespeare wanted perfection in his actors/actresses and in his play. I feel like I was confused and timid like Miranda was in this book. I was always hoping that Miranda would always make the right decision, knowing that she liked Stephan and William.
